WAYS WE SUPPORT

Food City Food Program

Blount Memorial patients who would otherwise return to a home with no food, Blount Memorial Foundation provides assistance to bridge the gap between discharge and additional food assistance. In January 2023, we partnered with Food City, through a generous gift card donation program and have assisted 5 families in the first 5 months of the year.

Through 2022, the Foundation provided 4,536 meals to families. When this program began in November and December 2021, we provided over 168 meals for patients.

KenJo Markets Gas Card Program

Blount Memorial patients who must choose between putting fuel in the car and not receiving treatment. Through this program and other donations to our Cancer Center Patient Resource Fund, as of May 1, 2023, the Foundation has provided $5,220 in fuel cards in 2023. With the increase in demand for assistance, we are pleased to announce on May 1, KenJo Markets will be providing $5,000 in fuel cards for patients.

In 2022, we provided $5,120 in fuel cards. We assisted patients in driving 60,318 miles to and from cancer treatments in 2021.

Nutritional Supplement Program

With funds from our Cancer Center Patient Resource Fund, the Foundation covers the cost of supplemental nutrition for cancer patients in active treatment and would otherwise decline in health. As of May 1, 2023, the Foundation continues to see an increase in the need for assistance. Already this year, we have provided 65 cases of supplement to eligible patients.

Through 2022 the Foundation provided 37 cases (7,104 ounces) of supplement. In 2021, we provided 5,376 ounces of supplement.

Oxygen Assistance

The Foundation works with Blount Memorial Home Medical Equipment to cover the cost of oxygen for those patients who without our assistance would not receive the life-saving oxygen. If you or someone you love needs assistance, please reach out to Blount Memorial’s Case Management. Throughout 2022, the Foundation covered the cost of oxygen 42 times.

In 2021, the Foundation covered the cost 44 times for a patient’s oxygen.

Prescription Assistance

This program is for Blount Memorial patients who would otherwise not receive their life-saving, healing prescriptions. Through 2022, the Foundation managed the Auxiliary’s prescription program, as well as providing our own assistance, paying for 94 patients’ prescriptions.

In 2021, we provided almost $1,200 in non-oncology prescriptions.

Patient Clothing Program

If a patient arrives in the ER or at the hospital, with no way to receive clean clothing, the Foundation is there to provide dignity and clean clothes for the patient. Through 2022, the Foundation provided 387 items of clothing.

In 2021, we provided 339 articles of clothing, assisting almost 200 patients.

Home Health Equipment

Blount Memorial Foundation works with Blount Memorial Home Health Equipment to cover the cost of items to assist in the transition of a qualified patient to his/her home when discharged from the hospital. To see a list of items provided click here.

Medical Fitness Scholarships

Through the Foundation’s Healthy Heart Fund, the Foundation is able to provide scholarships for patients who need to participate in Blount Memorial Hospital’s Medical Fitness program. This program provides a monitored way for individuals to exercise. Throughout 2022, the Foundation provided 44 months of scholarships.

In 2021, the Foundation provided 31 months’ worth of scholarships.

Hospice Assistance

Blount Memorial Foundation works with Blount Memorial Hospice to provide a packet including 2 sets Twin XL bed sheets, 5 hospital gowns, chuck pads, and a blanket to a qualified patient, who would otherwise not have those items, when discharged from the hospital to hospice. The Foundation also has a food program for qualified patients who are transitioning home without food.
